The BIRTH Special Collection

Partnered Collections, Special Issues

In 2014, the EU funded a COST Action that brought together over 120 scientists, practitioners, activists and policy makers from 34 countries, to advance research and practice in an area of great clinical and social importance, intrapartum care. This Special Collection presents six papers produced from the Action and illustrates the transformative research that was conducted by the Action.

This work was funded by the COST Action IS1405 BIRTH: “Building Intrapartum Research Through Health” (http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/isch/IS1405), supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology).

Project Lead

The Action was led by Professor Soo Downe, OBE, who is professor of midiwifery studies, at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN), UK. Her research focuses on midwifery and maternal child health and she is a member of the Research in Childbirth and Health Unit (ReaCH) at UCLAN.
