SCOPE
Online and mobile research has grown exponentially over the last 30 years, providing easy access to wider and often hard-to-reach populations in an inexpensive, fast, and convenient way. Despite these benefits, there remain many challenges associated with remote assessment, such as questions of reliability and validity. This issue has gained particular relevance in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, in which the need to adapt experimental and clinical research to necessary physical distancing constraints has been paramount.
In this call for papers, we invite submissions that provide evidence of the utility and validity of remote assessment tools. We particularly encourage authors to make use of the different article types published by PLOS ONE, including registered reports and study and lab protocols, in addition to research articles.
RESEARCH TOPICS
- Remote assessment
- New tools and methods
- Validation/adaptation of existing methods
- Telehealth
- Psychometrics
The ubiquitous uptake of mobile and wearable technology provides researchers with a unique opportunity for remote assessment of people in their daily living, thereby enabling long-term and ecologically valid understanding of complex behavioral and health problems. This Call for Papers will solicit ground-breaking research both into the methods for remote assessment, their reliability and validity, as well as the underlying technological platform for reliable, user-friendly, and secure collection and analysis in remote assessment.
