Minimally invasive autopsy for cause of death determination in high burden settings

Partnered Collections, Special Issues

In most middle and low-income countries, mortality data are crucial information to prioritize health policies but are inferred through highly inaccurate methods. Minimally invasive autopsy, a newly developed post-mortem tool consisting in the histological and microbiological analysis of body samples collected with biopsy needles, can improve our understanding of the causes of death in settings in which mortality burden is high, information is poor, and most deaths are preventable.
