PLOS is a non-profit organization on a mission to drive open science forward with measurable, meaningful change in research publishing, policy, and practice.

Building on a strong legacy of pioneering innovation, PLOS continues to be a catalyst, reimagining models to meet open science principles, removing barriers and promoting inclusion in knowledge creation and sharing, and publishing research outputs that enable everyone to learn from, reuse and build upon scientific knowledge.

We believe in a better future where science is open to all, for all.

PLOS Pathogens: Research Matters

Curated Collections

PLOS Pathogens presents Research Matters as a means to bridge the gap between academic research and the public. Research Matters provides a forum for active scientists to tell the public how diverse fundamental research into pathogens assures real and compelling impact on public health, human knowledge, and life as well as to develop a collective voice of the pathogens research community. If the next generation of scientists are to lead the way to the transformative discoveries of the future, current scientists need to articulate more clearly to nonscientists why, in our modern world, basic research matters more than ever.
