Antimicrobial Resistance

Calls for Papers Collections

An increasingly pressing public health issue, antimicrobial resistance currently imposes a high burden on health care systems globally and is projected to have a significant and worsening impact in the coming decades. In the absence of effective treatments against an increasing number of microbial infections, infectious diseases will become more difficult to treat, thereby increasing their morbidity and mortality. Antimicrobial resistance development and spread is a natural response to the selective pressures placed upon microorganisms as a result of antimicrobial consumption and reduced infection prevention & control, particularly in healthcare settings. To highlight current research, PLOS Biology, PLOS Medicine, and PLOS ONE have launched a Call for Papers focusing on antimicrobial resistance in all microorganisms.
